Via Appia Antica

Today we rented bikes and rode the Ancient Appian Way. The Appian Way is a road built in 312 BC, primarily for military reasons. it ran southeast from the Roman Forum to Capua, near Naples, and eventually Brundisium, modern-day Brindisi, in the southern region of Pugli. In its height it covered over 350 miles. Its function and value led to other roads being built, thus “all roads lead to Rome.” It is lined with remains of tombs, catacombs, villas, bath complexes and mausolea. It was a lovely day to escape crowds and the city. Harvey was totally in his element despite being on a crappy rental mountain bike. I never have seen Fran love biking so much, she totally crushed the bumpy terrain on the e-MTB. We rode about 22km total. It was great!
