Mid Atlantic Ridge

Iceland sits on the Mid Atlantic Ridge. This is where the Eurasian tectonic plate and the North American tectonic plate are diverging. This is how Iceland is formed, why it is such a new (geologically) island, so volcanic and geothermal activity, and why it is growing bigger each year!
