Avia
We arrived to Kate’s House in Avia, Greece. It is a lovely Airbnb with two bedrooms and a garden with roses and lime, fig, and pomegranate trees. The house is just 70m from the beach and has beautiful views of the mountains too! Kate and her husband are already the nicest hosts (they live upstairs).
We walked to a restaurant for dinner, Il Gusto, where the kids got pizza and spaghetti (I guess we didn’t get enough Italian food!!). I got a Greek salad that was amazing. The views of the bay were so spectacular. And the people at the restaurant were so nice, they insisted on treating us to some delicious chocolate cake.
We had our first Greek lesson too: In Greek, “thank you” is efcharistó, “ευχαριστώ” (pronounced “ef-kha-ri-STOH”).
We are in the Peloponnese Peninsula, historically known as Morea. It is located in southern tip of mainland Greece. Our small town of Avia is near the city of Kalamata. It is the large port city of the Messenian Gulf, known for Kalamata olives and olive oil. There are olive trees everywhere here!
