Fiji

BULA from Fiji!! 🇫🇯 Country number 20! Getting a little slice of paradise on our way back home. The Republic of Fiji is an island country in Melanesia. Fiji consists of an archipelago of more than 330 islands—of which about 110 are permanently inhabited. The majority of Fiji's islands were formed by volcanic activity starting around 150 million years ago. Humans have lived in Fiji since the second millennium BC—first Austronesians and later Melanesians, with some Polynesian influences. Europeans first visited Fiji in the 17th century. Fiji was a British Colony from 1874 to 1970. For the first few days of the trip, we will stay on the main island of Fiji, Viti Levu. It is 10,388 km2 (4,011 sq mi) and has a population of 740,000 (about 70% of the nations population).
