Botanical Garden
I went to a botanical garden. It was so lovely! And free even!! There were so many different varieties of columbines. I loved how the workers that were weeding and cleaning beds were wearing their wool sweaters (that appeared to be hand knit).
There was one area of the garden that was named after Vigdís Finbogadóttir, the fourth president of Iceland (1980-1996) and the first elected female president in the world. She visited the garden in 1981 as part of her tour through Iceland after her election. She was an environmentalist and one of her main missions was the reforestation of Iceland and to fight topsoil loss. She always emphasized the need to plant trees and planted wherever she went three trees, usually birch, one for girls, one for boys and one for the coming generation.
